This War of Mine: The War Game About Civilians That Made It Into the School Curriculum

October 17, 2026 · Tony Chavez

This War of Mine by 11 bit studios offers a perspective rarely seen in war games: not soldiers, but civilians trying to survive in a besieged city. Inspired by the Siege of Sarajevo, the game is known for its powerful emotional weight.

Surviving Day by Day

During the day, players manage the shelter, build furniture, cook, and care for the residents. At night, one person is sent out to scavenge supplies in dangerous locations. Every decision, including stealing from others, affects the characters’ mental state.

Recognized as an Educational Work

This War of Mine was even added to the school reading list in Poland, making it one of the first games officially recognized as learning material about the impact of war.

Additional Content

The game received The Little Ones expansion featuring child characters, as well as the narrative Stories series. The Final Cut edition also bundles all updates into one package.

This War of Mine is a reminder that games can carry a humanitarian message. Follow WHISPERED MINIMAP for more news.
